How this historic agreement stands to benefit Galatasaray, on and off the pitch
Galatasaray Sportif Sınai ve Tic. Yat. A.Ş., İstanbul – 06.08.2020 | As per yesterday’s statement, our club and London-based UK investment outfit, Capital Sports Media, has agreed a partnership — starting from the 2020/2021 football season — which, we believe, will usher in a new era of commercial and sporting success for Galatasaray.
Capital Sports Media will bring in big brand partners for the club, through the marketing of on-field and off-field advertising areas; such as LED boards, 3D carpets and in-stadium branding at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex Türk Telekom Stadium. These will leverage the global appeal of our great club, its huge and loyal fanbase, as well as the Turkish Süper Lig and other live events we host at our home. These ventures are, of course, commonplace among elite clubs around Europe and the optimisation of these revenue streams has seen those teams push on to greater sporting success; backed by sustainable, long-term, commercial models.
Capital Sports Media is a subsidiary of the leading sports networking platform, Premier Sports Network. Their own history notes UEFA, PGA and the Longines Global Champions Tour among an extensive portfolio of partners. They count multi-international brands like Gillette, BBC and Nokia among their clients and will provide invaluable strategic support, maximising our on-field and off-field advertising areas for all live football events on a global level. In addition to Galatasaray’s local market, this agreement allows Galatasaray to fully exploit opportunities for international collaborations in the upcoming future.
Within the scope of the agreement, a minimum guarantee fee will be paid by Capital Sports Media to secure the value of those relevant advertising areas. The price agreed by the parties here is significantly higher than the income our club has received from similar agreements in past seasons. We believe this to be a truly momentous change for our club — one that will develop a solid platform for commercial and sporting change across Galatasaray and Turkish football.
The contracted period is determined as 11 years in total; though it’s important to note that it is divided across an initial one year, then two blocks of five years. All parties will be able to benefit from the termination clauses built in to the partnership across those terms. Our club is set to earn a guaranteed minimum (amounting to no less than tens of millions, GBP) from the partnership with Capital Sports Media, if the contract period is completed with all the extension options.
We consider Capital Sports Media as yet another, very important, component in the commercial mechanisms we need to drive Galatasaray forward and take our place among the most commercially viable clubs in world football. This partnership should see our club progress to become a front-runner in the globalisation race of today’s football industry.
